At Yellow Door Dance Company we are all family and with that said, we would like to introduce you to some of our key members!
Owner & Manager
Jennifer is a busy wife, mother and business women. She has lived in Lacombe since 2002 and has been a supportive dance mom since 2009 to all three of her kids. Jennifer is excited to be able to support and grow the creative spirit of Lacombe through Yellow Door Dance Company. Helping youth to grow and express themselves in a healthy, supportive environment is the goal of YDDC.
Ms. Janelle A
Studio Director/ Instructor
Janelle has been dancing for over 25 years, at the ripe age of 2 she took her first class. She has studied in several disciplines including ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre, hip-hop, acro and variety. Janelle is Certified Module 1 Acrobatic Arts Teacher. In her younger years, Janelle travelled throughout Western Canada competing in dance festivals. During that time she also completed her ADAPT (jazz & tap) and RAD (ballet) examinations. Janelle continues to take dance classes, attend conferences at any chance she gets, she always wants to take extra steps to advance her teaching. Janelle has also completed her Bachelors in Business Management.
Janelle has been awarded several choreography awards and trained many dancers who have been recipients of many special awards and scholarships to world-wide programs and events.
Janelle spent a few years dancing as a student at this exact location under Dancemaker studio. She was also a part of the All That Jazz Dance Studio family for two years as a teacher. Janelle absolutely loves sharing her passion of dance with her students. She is over the moon excited to see what the future will bring with Yellow Door Dance Company.
Studio Coordinator/ Instructor
Trish's own background began as a competitive dancer at the age of 5 and spanned 13 years. After spending the past 10 years (and counting) as a dance mom, she is taking all of her experiences and applying them in the studio!
Not only has she continued her dance education by taking YDDC's adult classes, online instruction and assisting our Studio Director with her keen eye for technique, Trish's vivid imagination adds a very exciting aspect to her classes thanks to her past experience in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre!
Trish strongly believes that the dance studio should feel like home, the moment you walk through the door. She will always strive to ensure all dancers, parents and friends feel welcome and part of the YDDC Family when they walk through the Yellow Door.
Ms. Janelle M
Janelle Maddox is a graduate of the University of Calgary where she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. She is a dedicated choreographer and dance educator who is passionate about sharing her love for dance with others. Janelle is an instructor/choreographer with Maddox Dance Company where she focuses on contemporary technique and choreography and creative dance. She is interested in efficiency of movement, dancer’s agency within creation, and safe dance practices. Janelle hopes to continue learning as a dancer and dance educator, and offer her knowledge and passion for movement to dancers of all ages and abilities.
Sydney’s love of dance began at an early age of three years old. Taking her first years at Medicine Hat’s Conservatory of Dance. This passion transferred to many studios around Central Alberta. For over 10 years she travelled across Canada for Dance Festivals and Competitions, and has competed in solo competitions around the U.S. Sydney has experience in the following genres of dance; Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Acro, Modern, Pointe, Variety, Character, Cirque, and PBT. She has taken Adapt Exams in Jazz and Tap, RAD exams in Ballet, and has received distinction in Acrobatic Arts exams.
Sydney has taken it upon herself to always seek out learning opportunities. She has attended many summer intensives including School of Alberta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet in New York, Joffrey Contemporary Ballet in San Francisco and the Joffrey Ballet collaborative Cirque du Soleil program in Las Vegas. She has also been granted many opportunities to work privately with Arizona Classical Ballet, KBM talent in California, IDance in Florida, as well as Capital Gymnastics and Premier Cheer in Alberta. Many dance experiences such as being a part of RDC’s the Nutcracker for over 4 years, dancing in Disney Parade’s with Dance the Magic, and attending many conventions such as Radix in Houston Texas, JUMP, Dance Attack and many more!
The love of teaching dance grew when she first started assisting, and has been assisting for nearly 10 years! She is an Acrobatic Arts Module 1 certified teacher, and has taught private Acro lessons to many dancers over the years. Sydney also loves coaching and choreography solos and duets! She is excited to share her passion teaching proper technique and expanding creativity from her experiences utilizing these as assets to share with the dancers.
Although Tap has always been her passion, Janine has been teaching Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop to dancers of all ages for over 20 years. She grew up dancing in a small town studio and continued taking classes while teaching when she moved to Edmonton for University. Janine’s creativity and enthusiasm for teaching has earned her many choreography awards over the years. She is the proud Mama of an incredible 2yr old little girl (a future tapper, for sure) and is also the Grade 1 teacher in Bashaw. Janine is SUPER excited to be a part of the YDDC family and to be able to share her love for dance with you!
